What do you mean by the term "old growth"?
"Old growth" refers to a tree that is allowed to reach full maturity in a natural environment before it is harvested. After the tree is fully mature, it is harvested at its healthiest point, allowing smaller, younger trees to have more access to soil nutrients and sunlight. These mature trees are often very tall and wide, providing maximum potential for products made from the tree, such as columns, hand-hewn mantels, and wide plank flooring. Unlike some reclaimed or antique wood, old growth wood has no nail or mortise holes, yet still maintains a beautiful patina and rich character.
What We Do:
Historic Flooring specializes in flooring, wall coverings, trim and accessories produced from reclaimed antique and old growth wood with an emphasis on Heart Pine, Oak and Wormy Chestnut. The wood we use to produce Historic Flooring products was originally harvested anywhere from 100 to 300 years ago, when it was used to build America. We recue most of the wood from old barns, factories, cotton mills and other antique structures, many of which are Circa 1700s 1800s. The remainder is responsibly harvested Old Growth Lumber.
