What We DoHistoric Flooring
specializes in flooring, wall coverings, trim and accessories produced from reclaimed antique and old growth wood with an emphasis on Heart Pine, Oak and Wormy Chestnut. The wood we use to produce Historic Flooring products was originally harvested anywhere from 100 to 300 years ago, when it was used to build America. We recue most of the wood from old barns, factories, cotton mills and other antique structures, many of which are Circa 1700s 1800s. The remainder is responsibly harvested Old Growth Lumber.

It's not a floor until you say it's a floor Many companies have large inventories of reclaimed and old growth "flooring". This is where Historic Flooring is different. Our inventory is reclaimed and old growth lumber that only becomes flooring after we talk to you, the customer, about your project. Everyone has different needs, wants, and desires when it comes to building or remodeling their homes. We want to talk to you and find out what kind of look you have in mind. Then, and only then, is your wood milled to your specifications.

We Won't Be UndersoldDoes all of this sound expensive? We invite you to shop around and compare our prices to the competition. Our company is in the heart of Appalachia, where the wood is plentiful. Although we do travel to neighboring states to procure some of our inventories, we don't have to go far to find the most beautiful antique, reclaimed and old growth woods. Our area is not only abundant, but diverse as well. Our area boasts species ranging from Oak and Pine to Sassafras, Cherry, Walnut and Hickory to name a few. With a variety like this, we are confident that all of you ideas will come to life. We sell directly to you, the customer and take a personal interest in all of your project desires.

Commitment to the Environment As an environmentally conscious company, we are doing our part to adhere to green building practices by preserving historical lumber and other architectural components such as mantels, columns and hand hewn beams that would otherwise be lost forever.

What is reclaimed wood and where do you obtain it?

We reclaim our antique lumber from a variety of sources, such as old buildings, barns, mills, and other antique structures, primarily in the Appalachian Mountains. We obtain heart pine from Philadelphia, oak from the Amish country of Pennsylvania, cypress from the coastal Carolinas, and river recovered from Louisiana. The wood used to construct these buildings and barns was originally harvested anywhere from 100 to 300 years ago, when it was used to build America. All of our reclaimed wood is old growth wood and is salvaged and recycled to produce stunning flooring, paneling, columns and mantels for your home or office.

What do you mean by the term “old growth”?

“Old growth” refers to a tree that is allowed to reach full maturity in a natural environment before it is harvested. After the tree is fully mature, it is harvested at its healthiest point, allowing smaller, younger trees to have more access to soil nutrients and sunlight. These mature trees are often very tall and wide, providing maximum potential for products made from the tree, such as columns, hand-hewn mantels, and wide plank flooring. Unlike some reclaimed or antique wood, old growth wood has no nail or mortise holes, yet still maintains a beautiful patina and rich character.

Is reclaimed wood a good choice for flooring in every room in my home?

Absolutely! It is only in recent years that homeowners sought other flooring choices in kitchens, bathrooms, and hallways. Wood flooring in high traffic locations is a beautiful choice. Proper finishes will protect the wood from exposure to other elements that may exist in a kitchen or bath. Our old growth cypress is an excellent choice for use in exterior decking!

Do you offer reclaimed wood products other than flooring?

Historic Flooring offers beautiful wood from a variety of wood species, such as Classic Oak Mix, Original Face Oak, Reclaimed Heart Pine, Old Growth Heart Pine, and Wormy Chestnut, just to name a few. In addition to our flooring, we also offer a stunning range of paneling, wainscoting, bar tops, counter tops, hand-hewn beams for mantels, stair treads, spindles, and hand rails. We also offer beautiful craftsman furniture pieces that are unmatched in their rustic beauty and rich character. We even have barn doors, rusty tin and antique stone for use as additional architectural elements in your design.

Can I use reclaimed wood in my home if I have radiant heat?

Wood flooring is exceptionally suitable when installed over radiant heat. Wood is an excellent conductor of heat, making our floors and ideal selection for use in your home. Wide plank flooring will allow even distribution of heat, making it very beneficial to the wood.

Why should I use reclaimed wood in my construction or remodeling project?
